Find your fit ↗03 / HEALTHY TREES START AT THE ROOTS
Give your trees their best chance to thrive. Early attention, the right treatment, and healthy growing conditions start with understanding what your tree needs.
Lacy leaves, chewed holes, browning, and early leaf drop can point to elm leaf beetles. Repeated heavy feeding can weaken a tree.
When treatment is needed, a labeled systemic root treatment can move from the soil through the roots into the leaves where beetles feed. Uptake takes time, so timing and soil moisture matter.
Trunk holes, borer activity, and dying branches deserve a closer look. Water stress and injury can leave ash trees more vulnerable to lilac/ash borer.
The root treatment used for elm leaf beetles is not a treatment for every ash pest. Identifying the insect and the tree’s condition helps determine whether a targeted trunk treatment, injection, or other care fits.
Water stress and canker diseases can contribute to thinning crowns and dying branches. Cottonwoods need careful attention to water availability and root conditions.
Check for the cause before treating. Insect control can help a diagnosed pest problem; it will not correct drought stress or cure a canker disease.
CARE FROM ROOTS TO CANOPY
Root soaks, injections, fertilizer, and biological soil support serve different purposes. We’ll talk through the tree, the symptoms, and the site before choosing a plan.
Call HutchCall to confirm the treatment plan and price for your tree.
A soil drench or soil injection places an appropriate treatment in the root zone for uptake into the tree. It can control certain feeding insects, including elm leaf beetles, when the product and timing match the pest.
Some pest problems can be treated through a product injected into the trunk. Because injections create wounds, the tree’s condition and the reason for treatment matter. Root and trunk treatments are not interchangeable for every problem.
Targeted nutrition can help correct a nutrient deficiency. Soil testing and the tree’s symptoms help guide that choice. Fertilizer is not a substitute for water, and feeding a drought-stressed tree can do more harm than good.
Beneficial soil organisms, including mycorrhizal fungi, can help roots access nutrients. A soil bio treatment may be worth considering for the right site, but adding microbes does not help every tree. Product choice, existing soil life, moisture, and soil conditions all matter.
The goal is to reduce the stresses we can address and support healthy growth. Treatment choices depend on the diagnosis and product label; no treatment can reverse every disease or existing damage.

Pre-emergent and post-emergent weed control is available at $300 per acre. Tell Hutch the property size, location, and whether weeds have already emerged to discuss a suitable treatment. Timing depends on the weeds, site conditions, and product label.
A suitable systemic soil or root treatment can move through an elm’s roots into its leaves to control feeding beetles. The tree, pest, product, timing, and soil moisture all matter. Lacy or browning leaves need a closer look before choosing treatment. Read about elm, ash, and cottonwood care.
No. Fertilizer addresses nutrient needs; a systemic insect treatment targets certain pests. Root soaks, trunk injections, and soil bio treatments have different purposes. Tree symptoms and growing conditions help determine which care is appropriate.
